Making a conscientious choice to be responsible for every aspect of your life; taking ownership of one's own choices and positively following through on those choices.

garage sale coming soon.. This month, I'm holding myself accountable by having a garage sale to clear out my home. Hooray, my "garage sale blitz" is May 18, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and May 19, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 309 Aster Drive in Northfield. My friends and I have been decluttering and getting rid of excess a little bit at a time over the last several months. Goods for sale include furniture, collectibles, home décor, and childrens' books and toys. MANY THINGS haven't been used much and are in "new" condition.

"Making the Choice to be Financially Accountable" by Coach Deborah.

Be financially accountable.Have you heard the saying, "Money doesn't matter but it sure helps!?" Yes, we need to have money to survive and thrive while we are here on this earth. Sadly, much of our culture resides in the claws of consumption. We "buy into" every new trend. "Instant gratification" has become the two standard "buzz words" for achieving satisfaction. How fast can we have it? We want, want, and want, and for some it's never enough. Technology has put many in the fast lane trying to keep up with the latest and the greatest. Right now, it's the new apple phone and flat screen t.v.'s. It's a guarantee that there will be something new and improved next year and the year after that. The temptation to spend constantly surrounds us all, if we allow it to. That's just it. Statistics show that more than half of us in this country are overspending and building up major debt and not saving anything. Some want it all and they want it all yesterday. That's not how "real life" works, especially if you have champagne tastes on a beer budget. Spending, saving, and debt are choices. There are two kinds of "good" debt that are worth investing in- a mortgage and an education. Both provide future monetary benefits.

Be financially accountable. You can choose to stop your poor spending habits and set up a financial plan and live according to your means. At our house, we know that we'll be needing new windows within the next five years, so we're planning accordingly. What does your financial situation look like? How is your financial situation affecting your attitude, daily living, relationships and health? What actions are you willing to take to create the monetary success you deserve? When you have accomplished your monetary goals, what will your life look like?

Be financially accountable.
Remember, you can do it! You can choose to live a simpler, financially responsible life. When your finances are in order, you'll find yourself feeling more at peace. This peace integrates into your other three life areas and you'll feel more uplifted, have a higher energy level, and feel content.

Here's the deal...

If you're having a hard time developing your own budget and financial plan - use your resources. Go to a banker or financial planner. Check out your local community education service as they may know of a resource for you to tap into. Ask a close friend to show you how they set up their budget or financial plan or ask them who they use for financial help. Where there's a will, there's a way.

By the way...

When paying off your debt, start with the installment loan or credit card with the highest finance charge percentage. When this is paid off completely, then move on to your next highest finance charge. If you're really financially strapped and can't see a way out, seek professional help.

Give yourself a Me-Time moment...

Find a comfortable place to sit down. Take a few breaths and relax. Use the following affirmations to help you create forward movement with your financial goals. Confidently read the following affirmations outloud. The more often you say them, the more you will internalize them and act on them.
  1. I am financially independent or clearly on track to becoming so.
  2. I am free of credit cards and installment debt or clearly on track to becoming so.
  3. I can count on my income each morth or I'm clearly on track to making it so.
  4. I have extra money in a safe and available place or am clearly on track to making this so.
  5. Money (or lack of it) doesn't hold me back. It's my choice to be happy and financially accountable. I will live according to my means.
Something to think about...

Being accountable means being PROACTIVE.
  • P-ull yourself forward
  • R-eward yourself when you reach your goals
  • O-wn your choices
  • A-ct now, not later
  • C-hoose to reduce excesses and live simply
  • T-ell yourself positive affirmations
  • I-nvite a friend to attend a financial planning class with you
  • V-ote "yes" to yourself so you get what you want
  • E-mbrace each day for the gift it is

On a Wing and A Prayer...

"..contentment is itself great wealth. Afterall, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything with us when we leave it."
1 Timothy 6:6-7
